Careers
Our aim at Camphill Wakefield is to provide learning experiences and activities that enable students to progress towards positive destinations of their choice through accessing a progressive programme of careers activities and education relevant to each learning pathway. We strive to constantly improve our careers provision by using Compass toolkit assessments and aligning to the Gatsby Benchmarks. 

The eight Gatsby benchmarks of Good Career Guidance are:

  1. A stable careers programme
  2. Learning from career and labour market information
  3. Addressing the needs of each pupil
  4. Linking curriculum learning to careers
  5. Encounters with employers and employees
  6. Experiences of workplaces
  7. Encounters with further and higher education
  8. Personal guidance

What Students Can Expect:

A stable careers programme with activities aligned to each learning pathway, and differentiated to meet individual needs.

All students can request information from the careers team, and the college careers calendar provides activities at key stages of the students' pathways.

Students can participate in the following activities:

  • accessing Careers in Education with links to future working options and opportunities, and relevant regional Labour Market Information.
  • taking part in a range of Employer Encounters and Experiences relevant to their chosen study pathway and their aspiration
  • receiving Impartial Advice and Guidance from a trained careers advisor
  • taking part in high-quality internal Work Experience and Work Shadowing
  • accessing relevant group, paired and / or individual external Work Experience with a preferred business or employer
  • receiving information about Supported Internship events; Apprenticeship events and fairs; Traineeships; Further Education provider open days and events,

What Parents/Carers Can Expect:

The annual review process enables parents / carers to be included and involved in each student's careers programme.

Parents / carers can also expect to:

  • receive information about upcoming careers events and activities directed at young people and their parents / carers
  • be contacted about any planned work experience placements
  • take part in the annual and EHCP review process, where careers and positive destinations are discussed
  • find out about the range of activities available via this website
  • have a designated contact person in college with whom to discuss careers and future related elements of the learning pathways and programme.

How we work with partner employers and businesses:

Camphill Wakefield partners with a wide range of employers in the local area and region who can offer:

  • industry visits to their premises
  • guest speaker sessions and demonstrations in college
  • work experience - groups, paired and individual
  • sustained work placements for Achieve Pathway students

What businesses and employers can expect from Camphill Wakefield:

  • taking on a group of keen and hard working students on placement at your workplace
  • invites into college as guest speakers to meet students and provide short sessions about your business and industry
  • gaining individuals with basic prior knowledge and experience in specific industry areas - bringing their skills to the workplace! 
  • receiving consistent support and guidance from college staff and job coaches
  • invites to the Reverse Job and Work Experience Fair, the We Are Wakefield First Friday event, and business networking events at Camphill Wakefield
  • the opportunity to broaden equality and diversity for your business, including advice on Disability Confident registration
  • the opportunity and support to become advocates for SEND inclusion in the workplace, and to participate in wider regional groups via the We Are Wakefield Network and the West Yorkshire Careers Hub
